Since debuting as the creative force behind Farewell Friend, Tom Troyer has earned recognition as a skilled songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, celebrated for his deeply introspective lyrics and lush, emotionally charged soundscapes.Troyer has built a reputation for blending poetic storytelling with innovative production, drawing comparisons to The National, Wilco, and Sufjan Stevens. Beyond his own projects, he has contributed to over 25 albums as an engineer and producer, helping shape the sound of North Carolina’s thriving music scene through his studio, Black Rabbit Audio.

Born and raised in the cornfields of Indiana and now based in Greensboro, North Carolina, Troyer discovered his passion for songwriting as a child and has spent his life honing his craft. Over the years, he’s developed a distinctive approach to both writing and production, marked by an educator’s thoughtfulness and a collaborative spirit. Whether performing as Farewell Friend, recording other artists, or contributing to live performances with artists and bands like Laura Jane Vincent and Viva La Muerte, Troyer has emerged as a dynamic figure in contemporary folk and indie music.
