A couple of days ago we filled these Heaven Hill bourbon barrels with 2017 Choco Thickfreakness Imperial Stout. We reformulated the recipe and will be treating it with chocolate and other adjuncts slightly differently than we have in the past, hopefully resulting in a more luscious and decadent brew. #ncbeer #craftbeer #barrelaged

To celebrate the new year we put on the last keg in existence of 2016 Shady Grove red sour ale with NC raspberries. We also have only 1 case left of bottles for sale. This will be your last chance to try one of the best beers we made in 2016, it’s gonna be awhile ’til the 2017 variety is ready. #ncbeer #sourbeer #craftbeer

This a few days late, but we just wanted to say a big thank you to all of our customers who supported us in 2016. It was a big year for us, as we added 75% more capacity, launched some exciting new brands including true mixed culture sours like Raspberry Shady Grove and Lonesome Ellen, released 12oz bottles in six and four packs and even brewed our first few lagers. We also had two incredibly fun Sour Barn Bashes out at Rock Quarry Farm, and a weather-cursed but rocking Cardinal Directions in July. We couldn’t have done any of it without the support of all of our regulars here in Carrboro and customers across this great state. We hope you all have a healthy, lucky and prosperous 2017.

I’m sipping on a super fresh Dad Fuel Pale Lager while putting some long overdue boxes of beer in mail. One of the best parts of my job is sharing the brews we are so proud of with fellow brewers. We put a lot of beer into packaging in 2016 and are awfully happy with the results. The coming year will see even more bottle releases, lots of new brews and returning favorites in the near future. #ncbeer #craftbeer

We get a clear picture of the how we have changed and grown over the last four years. We can hone in on the things most important to us, aspects of our brewery we want to nourish and see as our combined efforts yield spectacular results. The Bash reinforces the relationships we strive to build between ourselves and our fellow brewers, our neighbors and supporters. It’s all very humbling, thank you.

Here are some of the highlights from yesterday’s festivities that we wanted to share with y’all. So much fun was had at the 2nd Barn Bash, we owe thanks to so many –
First of all Benevolence Farm, our partners in this event who recruited so many great volunteers.
Thanks to our volunteers who poured, set up and helped us leave Rock Quarry Farm as pretty as when we came in.
Thanks to the brewers, our compatriots in the industry that inspire us with their amazing beer, we are humbled that you came to hang at the bash.
Thanks to James Naquin and his team for putting together an awesome menu of food for everyone.
We owe a huge debt to our hosts at Rock Quarry Farm, Miles and Camille were such a pleasure to work with once again, getting the space ready to welcome all our guests.
Last but not least we want to thank all the folks who came and braved the chill to drink some special beers to raise money and awareness for an amazing organization! We owe so much to you.

Today’s topic of conversation while bottling is just what was it that made Clooney so darn sexy on ER. It turns out that everyone has their own theory.

We are bottling Poor Laurie, Brett Saison aged in white wine barrels. This beer displays lots of funk mingled with a lovely white wine flavor, fruity and earthy at the same time. We’re bottle conditioning this one, so look for a release early 2017!
