I don’t know if y’all know but we are just a few weeks away from having six packs and four packs of your favorite Steel String brews ready for your enjoyment. Expect regular releases available in the taproom and bottle shops throughout NC.

This new format is a huge step forward for us, not only will it increase the quantity of beer and brands we package but allow for us to enter into new territory. We plan to focus on music venues, rad restaurants and bars that don’t have lots of space for draft beer. We can’t wait to watch some live music with a bottle of Big Mon or Little Sadie. Stay tuned for for more info as we get this operation kicked into gear! #ncbeer #craftbeer

Coming October 1st we are releasing two beautiful beers that represent the evolution of our sour beer program both in concept and technique.
Introducing…

Shady Grove – Red mixed culture sour ale aged in Pinot Noir barrels and refermented w/ raspberries. Shady Grove bursts with a fresh raspberry and red wine aroma. The body features pleasant acidity and a light mouthfeel that encourages repeat sippin’.

Lonesome Ellen – Dark mixed culture sour ale aged in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels and refermented w/ blackberries. This complex sour features dark chocolate and roast notes from the malt bill, and vanilla notes from the bourbon barrels. Sharp acidity and dark berry flavors linger on the backend.

On Saturday October 1st we will have 500ml bottles of each available for $13. We will also have both of these beers on draft, this will be the only time these beers will be available to try in the taproom. To help us celebrate, @eastdurhampieco is baking us some raspberry and blackberry mini-galettes.

We are also partnering with our friends at Tasty Beverage Company, Sam’s Bottle Shop and Gate City Growlers for the release. Each of them will have bottles available as well as one of the two beers on draft.

We can’t wait for folks to try these special beers. #ncbeer #sourbeer #fruitedsour #craftbeer

Pulling nails and taking notes on a Brett saison we…

Pulling nails and taking notes on a Brett saison we have been aging in white wine barrels for the last few months. It’s always so interesting to see the subtle and not so subtle differences between the barrels. Each barrel is displaying varying levels of acidity and funk, different fruit aromas come through on each(pineapple, apple, and strawberry flavors are abundant), there is subtle leather notes coming through as well.

We’re calling this one Poor Laurie, after the girl who’s murder in Wilkes County NC in 1866 is the basis of much legend and the traditional murder ballad Tom Dooley.

Look for this one a little later this fall! #ncbeer #craftbeer #brettanomyces #saison

Coming October 1st – Two new barrel aged and fruited sour ales. We are excited to announce the release of these very special beers –

Shady Grove – A red mixed culture sour ale aged in pinot noir barrels and refermented w/ NC grown raspberries. This beer marries intense fresh raspberry flavor with a lovely red wine barrel character which should develop in complexity over time, complemented by a moderate lingering acidity.

and introducing…

Lonesome Ellen – A dark mixed culture sour ale aged in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels and refermented with NC grown blackberries. This beauty features aromas of dark chocolate, cherry and roast from the malt, vanilla and oak notes from the bourbon barrel aging finishing with a sharp acidity and complex fruityness resulting from the mixed culture fermentation and blackberry additions.

Both of these beautiful beers will be available in 500ml bottles in our taproom for $13 each. We will have both of these beers on draft for you to enjoy as well. East Durham Pie Company is providing some lovely raspberry and blackberry mini-galettes to pair with the beers.

We are enlisting the help of some of our favorite bottleshops to make this release extra special. In addition to the Steel String taproom you will be able to buy these beers on October 1st at Tasty Beverage Company – Raleigh in Raleigh, Sam’s Bottle Shop in Durham and Gate City Growlers in Greensboro. Each of these locations will have one of two of these beers on draft in addition to bottles.

We love Alt Bier, it’s why we try to keep our version, Sound City, on tap as much as possible. It’s probably the most traditional beer we brew, there is something very satisfying in faithfully recreating a classic. This batch of Sound City hits all the right notes, crisp, slightly chewy body. caramel and spicy sourdough flavor with just enough bitterness to keep you coming back sip after sip. #ncbeer #altbier #craftbeer

We’re honored to be partnering with the The Durham Hotel for their first ever beer dinner on Thursday the 22nd, seating is limited so don’t wait to reserve your spot.

On Saturday the 24th we’ll be running the cash bar at the The South Durham Farmers’ Market 2016 SoDu Farmers’ Market Barn Dance! Beer, barbecue and dancing on a beautiful farm sounds like the perfect way to welcome autumn.

Last but not least, Sunday the 25th is Carrboro Music Festival. Our stage will be rockin’ all day and all night long, so make sure you stop on by. We will release a lineup as soon as we know.

The group that sprung out of our community conversations last spring is hosting a community potluck on Monday September 19th from 5:30pm-7:30pm in the parking lot at 201 W Weaver St. We wanted to get the greater Carrboro community together to share a meal and get to know our neighbors better. Bring a dish to share if you are able, or just come to build community, all are welcome. There will be members of Inter-Faith Council for Social Service on hand to answer questions about their Food First program, if you are interested in learning more. There will be opportunities to engage your neighbors about community issues, participation is encouraged but by no means a requirement. We hope to see you there!
