Brewer’s Log 7312

In Brewing By Brewing Czar

Great day in the world of Steel String today. We got some good news about our equipment and how it will work with our hopeful location, and took one more step on the road to being a real-live Brewery. Stay tuned for more news about that in the upcoming weeks.

Also, we got a chance to tour Triangle Brewing Company today and chat with the man behind Triangle, Rick. It was really great to get an in-depth tour of a brewery, especially when we actually have relevant questions to ask, as opposed to before when we were just in awe of the awesomeness of it all. Not that we weren’t in awe this time, because we were. But it was good to know which contacts we needed to ask about, what additional information we needed etc. Rick was extremely knowledgeable about how to get a brewery up and running, and extremely generous with information informed by experience.

We have a good idea of what we need to do to move forward and good idea of what it will all look like some day soon.  On to Brewing. This week, we are going to be making our Exile on Weaver Street German style Hefeweizen, but trying a little experiment. We are going to split a ten gallon batch so that 5 only is boiled 20 minutes and then we are going to throw some wheat malt into that fermenter to turn it into a berlinerweise. Never done anything like this before, but hopefully it works out well. We will try out some different fruit syrups along with it and I think it would be awesome to offer a flight of 4oz servings with different syrups, like woodruff or some approximation, strawberry, lemon and then just straight up.  I would definitely enjoy something like that. Especially with some sausage and soft pretzels, next best thing to actually visiting berlin, right?
